The Calling

The Lord as a lost man lead me to Montana thru a job with the USFS Smokejumpers. Very few men and women are accepted into this program but the Lord was allowing me to gain acceptance so I could hear the gospel. The Lord lead me to Open Door Baptist Church were I was saved. My first reaction to getting saved was to go back to California to tell others of the good news. But the Lord said no (“And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house , or parents or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God’s sake.” Luke 18:29) and even though it was hard at the time I obeyed. Little did I know it was the first of many no’s I was to receive. It was that same year while at a camp meeting that the call went out for men to surrender to preach. I knew this was why I was saved to serve Him. Next the Lord asked me to give up my job that I loved. I tried to use excuses on why I needed to stay but nothing was working out for me and once again Luke 18:29 came to the forefront. So I gave my notice and was able to graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity degree in 2002. Then in 2003 me and my wife went on our first missions trip to Honduras and at the end missionary Bob Adams asked if I ever thought about going to the Falkland Islands.  I knew the Lord was dealing with me about being a missionary so 6 years later I was determined to go to the Falkland Islands.  So I took my first survey trip meeting up with veteran missionary Phil Robinson and ended up in the end of the earth, Punta Arenas. In my own understanding I thought to go the Derek Hansen - 71Falkland Islands but in God’s understanding he was directing me to Punta Arenas, Chile. (Proverbs 3:5,6) While there the Lord showed me thru fasting, prayer, bible and a servant’s heart that this is where he was leading me to serve. Yet, it was not in his timing so I was to receive another no from the Lord. (1 Timothy 3:6). Disappointed but not discouraged I continued to serve the Lord in our local church. And so it was in 2015 I finally reached a place of contentment with the Lord. (Phil 4:11) It was then that he lead me to go back to Punta Arenas. I argued with the Lord that I’m content now to stay here and that is when He let me know that He can now use me. (1 Tim 6:6) So in January of 2016 I took my wife and went back to the Magallene region of Chile.  Pictured to the right is a statue in Punta Arenas representive of our life's story. While in Punta Arenas, Chile  he confirmed the call to come back and preach the gospel to this region. (Isaiah 45:22)
